Yesterday we mentioned about a teaser site that Sega placed in regards of the next Phantasy Star game for the mobile, celebrating 30 years of the franchise. The site is now live and the mobile game is called Idola: Phantasy Star Saga. The free-to-play mobile game will launch on iOS and Android later this year in Japan. No word on a western release. Since Sega in North American and Europe have been quiet so far about this, we may not hear anything for quite awhile, if it happens. Last time we received a Phantasy Star game in the west? 2009’s Phantasy Start Portable for the PlayStation Portable (PSP).

The game introduces two characters: Stella and Yuri. Here’s a short description of each character.

Idola: Phantasy Star Saga - Stella

Stella (voice: Akane Fujita)
The heroine of this work served as the head of the armed brigade “White Shears Knights” fighting the huge monster “Hydra”. It is a calm deposit girl usually wearing an iron mask, but when you take off the mask, it becomes a personally natured person.

Idola: Phantasy Star Saga - Yuri

Yuri (voice: Toshiki Masuda)
The main character of the story. A bright and healthy boy. He lost both of his parents at a young age and was taken in by a ship captain that was an old friend of his father, and was raised as a sailor. He has a big heart and broad-minded personality, cheerful and frank with anyone he meets. After meeting with Stella, he acts as a commander of the Rookie Order of the White Sheep Order.

Here is the synopsis of the story thus far:

The story is set in the war-ravaged land of Vandoll. In this world ruled by swords and magic, the people spend each day fighting the mysterious, huge monsters known as “Idola” that wander about and threaten their livelihood.

Meanwhile, a god of destruction sealed long ago known as “Dark Farce” has begun the stages of its resurrection.

Will you be able to stop Dark Farce’s resurrection? And what is the true nature of the Idola that descended from Dark Farce?

The game will play mostly in a 3D environment with 2D illustrations. Character and enemy illustrations will move similar like a marionette but the game will most likely do just fine in Japan. For those who are interested in trying the game out and have a Sega ID in Japan can register now, earning rewards from Phantasy Star Online 2, if enough people register.

You can watch the official announcement Japanese trailer below. Idola: Phantasy Star Saga will launch later this year for iOS and Android in Japan.
