Sonic Pico Park is a cooperative multiplayer puzzle game that’s simple in design and fun to solve. Announced during the Summer Game Fest and as a part of Sonic’s 35th Anniversary celebration, Sonic Pico Park is developed by TECOPARK and published by PICO PARK, and originally created the indie game, PICO PARK that’s an inspiration to Sonic Pico Park.
The More the Merrier

At least two players can play and can go up to eight. While we could not get the confirmation regarding if Sonic Pico Park will have online capabilities and cross-play, we expect to see some kind of multiplayer mode for online play. During our demo with the game, we played with a total of four players, each using a Sonic-themed character: Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy Rose. Each Sonic-themed character has a special attribute, such as Knuckles gliding and Tails with the flight and carrying teammates.
When playing, you’ll start a stage that’s short but with obstacles to reach the end where you need to spin the sign, similar to the sign when cleaning a stage in the Sonic the Hedgehog games. Stages are set for any number of players, leaving less concern on having a certain amount of characters to play. There’s moments where you’ll need to collaborate and some characters have to take the lead. For example, Tails having to hold all teammates fly across a pit. Another is having everyone spin dash at the same time to break a wall. It’s simple mechanics but it’s fun to solve
We had the chance to try out a few stages and experiencing the game, communication among each other is the key to pass these trials. As long as everyone is on board with a steady style of communication, the experience is fun and entertaining. When completing a troublesome puzzle or clearing the stage, we were all ecstatic and having a purrtastic moment.
By the time we completed all the trials, I wanted to play more. The cooperative game feels like playing a four-player cooperative mode in New Super Mario Bros. Wii but less frustrating and more fun due to the sheer simple designs and straightforward objectives.
While the game can carry up to eight players, the last four are cat characters from PICO PARK. I’m curious to know if more Sonic characters will make an appearance such as Shadow and even Eggman (aka Robotnik).
All Together Now!
Overall, Sonic Pico Park is a fun cooperative game that’s coming in at the right time for Sonic’s 35th Anniversary. If we had to guess the amount of stages for Sonic Pico Park, one can assume it would be close to the amount PICO PARK carries, fourty-eight. For now, Sega and TECOPARK have not announced the amount yet.
