At Summer Game Fest: Play Days, the significant expansion to Granblue Fantasy: Relink was showcased, and we were able to play a short demo the game’s expanding gameplay and interact with the development team in person.

New Ways to Play

The team from Cygames decided to create a single, substantial expansion rather than releasing smaller updates after the surprisingly strong sales of Relink since 2024, as discussed with Cygames directors Tetsuya Fukuhara and Sanshiro Hidaka. In doing so, they were able to refine the game to be deployed on the Nintendo Switch 2, which can now accommodate a higher amount of demand than its predecessor, in addition to the current platforms of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC (Steam).

The team sought to implement a feature that would enable the integration of crossover between all platforms, rather than just between specific consoles, such as the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Players of the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, and PC will soon be able to engage in online battles.

Furthermore, the ability to summon formidable beasts during combat significantly enhanced the game’s gameplay. The directors stated that the concept of the summoning mechanism was inspired by the classic 3D fighting game, Tobal No. 2, when questioned about its functionality. When summoned in Endless Ragnarok, you have the opportunity to unleash your full power against your opponent(s) during this limited-time feature without incurring any damage. Another instance occurs during the demonstration, which bears a striking resemblance to the summoning style of Final Fantasy XVI.

Watching a Painting Come to Life

The expanded story commences immediately following the conclusion of the original game in Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok. If you are new to the game, you’ll play the original story first. The upcoming expansion will keep many of the original game’s mechanics, such as only controlling one character at a time.

On the battlefield, there is a significant amount of activity while playing. Expect to be overwhelmed by the numerous layers of battle mechanics in Granblue Fantasy: Relink if you are not already acquainted with the game. Visually and with its user interface setup, the game gives a familiar vibe to the MMO games genre. The design is stunning, featuring beautiful illustrations that have been transformed into 3D models of characters and monsters. During attack effects, colors are vivid and striking. Animations and designs on the field are captivating, like watching a painting come to life.

There were many characters to choose from in the game, and more are planned for the future. Those details are set to be announced after launch. As you construct your team, players can alter the master traits of each character, which are a set of skills that can be unlocked and mastered. These characteristics will increase your likelihood of victory in combat. You’ll have to make some important decisions regarding the allocation of your shared points among characters as they are strictly to be shared among everyone.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is expected to be a visually stunning expansion, and fans of the original game should anticipate its release in early July.

Prior to concluding our session with the development team, we inquired as to which animal they preferred, cats or dogs. Tetsuya Fukuhara and Sanshiro Hidaka both responded without hesitation that they prefer cats. Meow were talking.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok set to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on July 9, 2026 Fans can visit the game’s official website for additional information and purchasing options. We appreciate Cygames giving us the opportunity to test out Gran’s adventure at the Summer Game Fest.
