Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World set to release in December while it’s shaping up to be a fun adventure based on our time with it at PAX West, Square Enix provided details on the game’s online battles, battle arenas, and a new roguelike mode.
Online Frenzy

As mentioned in the last update, players can battle in various ways, such as battling online around the world. Online battles are enabled for cross-platform play. With Online Joint Battles, you can team up with other wranglers to take on massive monsters together. These battles will also hold daily quests and special events that’ll feature infamous monsters from the Dragon Quest series. Interesting! Overcome these challenges and earn rewards for your trouble.
This feature will offer three difficulties that’ll fit what you are comfortable with, these are based on how many icons there are. Special events will offer super-tough battles that will display a different colored icon. Players will match with others online or choose to play alone. During battles, players can chat with their teammates with simple preset messages. After your battle, you’ll earn rewards and monster eggs that come in four different colors.
In addition to Online Joint Battles, players can battle against each other in Ranked Matches for showcasing your glory across the globe. Both Online Joint Battles and Ranked Matches are intended to be a fair test of your wrangler skills. The Wrangler’s Spirit ability (ability to power-up your team) won’t activate in these game modes. Victory will reward you with Ranking Points and at the end of a season determines your rank. Players can also initiate Private Matches to customize the rules of battle. For example, how many rounds to fight or how many times you can swap your reserves.
The Wranglers Society is available where other players are presented in a fashion you can walk up and speak with other fellow wranglers and initiate battles. If you win in the Wranglers Society, you’ll get to spin the roulette wheel to determine your reward such as mini medals and other prizes. You can also head over to the Online Shop to purchase valuable items. The lineup can change depending on the day of the week and your progress through the game’s story.
Offline Frenzy

If online battles isn’t your cup of tea, The Withered World offers a fully offline Battle Arena, discovered upon visiting Witherwood Castle. Send the monsters into battles to determine the strongester wrangler in the kingdom. The Battle Area offers both regular and join battles with seven difficulty categories from G up to A. In regular Arena Battles, you must win all three matches to complete it. Your monsters’ health points and magic points will be fully restored between matches.
In Joint Battles at the arena, you can set tactics for not just your main party and its reserves but also other monster wranglers who will fight alongside you.
As your progress through the game’s story, a new challenge will unlock in the Battle Arena called the Wrangler’s Gauntlet. Here’s the challenging part, you’re given a a selection of monsters to build your party and win fifty consecutive battles. After winning a battle, players can strengthen their team, this includes synthesis to help create a more monstrous team. In addition, you can spend Wrangler Points that you received from winning each battle at the Gauntlet Goods to purchase items to help develop your party.
Despite how well you enjoy the monsters and the items you obtain, they can’t be taken out on your adventures. Each time you want to compete in this mode, the monsters change so don’t get comfortable with the party you had before.
Fans can visit the game’s official website for purchasing options and to download the demo on their preferred platform. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches on December 3, 2026 for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
