We had the opportunity to check out Fangtopia at The MIX during PAX West and enjoyed the cozy and safe-spooky vibes.

A costume-wearing Dracula greeted us as we first walked by the game, surrounded by Halloween decorations that represented the cozy puzzle game. When we tried it out, the game immediately carried a fun Halloween style that is rarely seen. The designs are amusing, and the colors resonated with the theme very well.

Create Your Own Transylvania

In Fangtopia, you are given a stack of hexagon-shaped tiles and tasked with creating the largest kingdom. There are other modes, and during the demo time, we created our own islands. Players take the hex pieces and watch as the islands grow and connect. Railroad tiles begin to connect, and once connected as a complete rail, a ghost train would start to animate on the tracks. Players can build villages, mountains, forests, unique landmarks, and more. As you build, animated objects will begin to appear, bringing life to the land you have created. You can watch Dracula emerge from his coffin or see a witch brewing with her cauldron. Just jumping in and doing what you please makes for a relaxing experience.

As you build, you’ll earn points, and when you run out of tiles, your total accumulated points are added to the global leaderboards, giving players something to strive for. It’s a game for all ages to enjoy, and more so for those who are looking for Halloween-styled games. Its release couldn’t come at a better time.

A Relaxing Brew

The aesthetics, along with its cozy, puzzle-style gameplay, are enough to sit back, drink some hot apple cider (or pumpkin spice latte), and munch on some Halloween snacks. With so many action-paced games coming out, Fangtopia is a game to have in your playlist for those breaks.
