We had the opportunity to do a short demo run of ANOMALITH during our time at PAX West. A new style game from the Furyu team, known for their CRY role-playing series.
Resident Mutation

A sudden plague has appeared out of nowhere in Japan as a mysterious distortion known as “Anomaly Zones.” You control a 17-year-old female named Reona, who joins a government-backed team that tackles these zones. Reona’s first attempt as a “Diver” takes a disastrous turn when particular beings residing within these zones wipe out her team. During this time, she awakens a power within her that will prove advantageous against these otherworldly creatures.
The story itself was intriguing to follow and gave us a Resident Evil vibe as we explored two different areas, one of them being a hospital. Though at times the story felt slow in its pacing, the home base also seemed emptier than expected during the demo run. Being at base did prove some benefits such as gun customization and changing attire that can affect your character’s stats. Your inventory is limited, so prepare the right weapons and items to carry that can fit in your bag.
Initiating combat was simple to use in the third-person view. Lock and shoot, but weapon types can be beneficial for taking down enemies more easily. Ammunition is limited, so players will need to be aware of what’s on hand. Reona’s anomalization skills, in addition to her firearms, can help defeat enemies that weapons cannot take down. While we didn’t get a full extent of how these powers can work in the demo, there are twelve unique powers to hone in on and upgrade as you progress through the game.
Character designs and voice acting were impressive, especially with Reona. Level designs give that eerie feel while dreadful creatures lurk beyond. We didn’t feel overwhelmed when fighting against these creatures and carried enough ammunition where it didn’t feel like a concern.
It’s an interesting genre the Furyu team is exploring, and the time we had playing was positive enough; we’re looking forward to seeing what’s in-store for Reona and her team.
ANOMALITH is set to launch on October 29, 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam). Fans can visit the game’s official website for additional information and purchasing options. We appreciate the Ukiyo Studios team for giving us the opportunity to test out their game at PAX West.
