Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the latest and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake series. The ultimate confrontation with Sephiroth, one of the most iconic video game villains, is the highest point of everything in this series. After playing a short demo, it’s going to be a good one.
Exploring Seamlessly

The demo that we were invited to play during PAX West had a lot of content, but an hour of gameplay went by so fast that two hours might not be enough. There’s a variety of activities available, and while we tried a few, we primarily focused on exploring Wutai.
We flew around the map with the Highwind, and it truly hit the nostalgia vibe as we flew across the world. The orchestrated music playing brought joy and, yes, some goosebumps while turning the ship over areas like Midgar and Wutai. While travelling, there weren’t any hiccups or frame drops. Landscape details did load while coming close to certain areas, such as adding extra details to the mountain landscape. It’s not a huge issue, and not having to experience load times is a plus while testing on a PlayStation 5 console.
When ready to land at your designated spot, there weren’t any load times, and it cut right to the parachute scene where you watch your fighters jump down. As you parachute down to the ground, similar to the loading of details while flying, objects begin to load as you get closer to the ground. The experience from flying to landing was smooth, and no hiccups The flight to landing was smooth, with no hiccups. It feels like the development team did a fantastic job making the game a positive experience.
Landing in the outskirts of Wutai, the landscape is beautiful with various types of plants, and the terrain’s texture certainly looks quite realistic along with the waterfalls occurring in the background. Cutscenes showing the land did display some flowers in the background that appeared and disappeared, but since this game is still in development, I assume these issues will be resolved. The building architectures are gorgeous as you travel through Wutai, and the ability to slingshot from one rooftop to the other is fun.
More Details, More Plot

The team consists of Yuffie, Barret, Cat Sith, Red XIII, Cid, and Vincent. Yuffie was the leader at this point while the others followed in their Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system. Barret looks fantastic in his knight outfit, Cat Sith’s outfit with its little hood looks adorable on him, and Red XIII’s attire enhances the appearance of the four-legged creature. Yuffie’s outfit is a little more revealing than her previous remake outfits. Overall, these new outfits give some excellent detail, I’d say more than previous remake titles.
While traveling towards Wutai, there were many cutscenes to go through, and due to the time limit, we skipped many of them. For some of the scenes we did watch, Yuffie carries some entertaining dialogue when trying to explain to her fellow Wutai members that Barret and the others are her disciples. Wutai definitely has a more political and deeper story and is not a side quest like the original 1997 version.
Similar to cutscenes, there are many side quests. One of the new side quests features is photo shooting. One quest, which I cannot complain about, is taking pictures of cats in Wutai. There were other missions to take before getting into the game’s story of Wutai, such as helping a fellow chocobo find her missing “boyfriend.” With the ability to roam the planet, expect more missions to take on. MAI, those who remember her from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, do make her appearance regularly. Players can also return to Gold Saucer for its mini games and play matches from people around the world in Queen’s Blood. Players can adjust the competitor level if you think the CPU is playing unfairly.

In battle, Vincent’s mid-range attacks and his transformation make him a fantastic assist on the battlefield. Cid’s spear and creating damage while in midair make battles amusing and another excellent piece to the team’s combat. The combat mechanics remain consistent, allowing players to easily resume from where they left off in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. There are simply more fighters and additional skills available if you have a specific FITS class associated with a character. Summoning is wonderful to use in battle. The summoned beast enters the battlefield and joins you with your other teammates as you dispose of your enemies. There’s a timer on it, so be aware of the clock.
The Beginning of the End
There were many more things to explore and do by the time our demo run was up. At this point, from what we saw, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up beautifully and looks more impressive than Remake and Rebirth. Whether you are a fan or someone who enjoys video games, you should look forward to playing Final Fantasy VII Revelation when it comes out in spring 2027.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on April 7, 2027.
