We had the opportunity to do a short demo run of It Takes Paws during our time at PAX West. It’s cute and wildly weird, in a good way!

Your human has died, and it’s up to Supremo, the cat, and Bubba Boo, the dog, to drag your dead human through various obstacles to bring him back to life.

The indie gameplay style is taking Nobi Nobi Boy and It Takes Two and mixing them together for this goofy and cooperative-heavy game. Its visuals are clean and sleek animations between the forefront and background to give it some depth. In addition, you can wear a variety of costumes for your fuzzy pets to make things feel more comical. What animal wears mermaid outfits with a pair of starfish on their chest?

It requires two players to play together while each pet holds one end of the noodle-like, perished owner. Move around and communicate effectively to navigate pits, grab objects to swing across, and complete other tasks. If either character fails, the process will restart. One of the benefits of having to fail multiple times is that the savepoints are close or right before the area you’ve failed. Preventing any more frustration. But we also laughed at our failures and how we navigated those tricky areas. It’s definitely a lighthearted game that encourages fun and laughter. The game is designed for close friends and family members to play together.

Flinging around the level showcases humorous moments as you watch how your human owner reacts like a rubber noddle, but the physics in this game work quite well on your maneuver. Failing doesn’t feel like a mechanical issue and more like a communication and human error.

While the game is slated to release on PC, we’d like to see this game published on other platforms with crossplay for a wider audience experience. Until then, keep an eye on this comical co-op game when it comes out on PC.

It Takes Paws is set to launch in the near future for PC (Steam). Fans can visit the game’s official Steam page for additional information and purchasing options. We appreciate the Ukiyo Studios team for giving us the opportunity to test out their game at PAX West.
