The next HD-2D game from Square Enix was revealed and it’s coming out this fall. Final Fantasy Resonance announced during Nintendo’s June direct has nostalgia and role-playing game (RPG) fans excited. It’s the first Final Fantasy game to utilize Square Enix’s HD-2D gameplay mechanics and it’s shaping up to be a hot title this year. Official screenshots and trailer available below the article.

Resonance is based off the first story arc of the popular mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. It’s not just a simple port as the mobile game was rebuilt as a console-quality RPG experience. With no gacha system, keeping the turn-based mechanics, and special guest characters from the Final Fantasy series will make their appearances. Ever since Brave Exvius shutdown its servers globally in October 2024, Japan in October 2025, the development team for Resonance have been wanting to bring the mobile game over as a new game lineup. Thank goodness as the game’s story, character building, soundtrack, and its gameplay mechanics made it a fun experience on mobile. To see the game come back to life in a new visual experience, fans of Final Fantasy and RPGs should look forward to this release. Depending on sales, there’s a potential fans could see additional story arcs port over from Brave Exvius and the possibility to see other Final Fantasy titles receive the HD-2D treatment.

Final Fantasy Resonance announced to launch on October 22, 2026 for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is available for pre-order and retails at $49.99 USD. Those who pre-order the game will receive a pre-order bonus of a Magitek Airship & Squire Starter Pack.
