Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is the next Hot Wheels video game, slated to launch on consoles and PC on September 24th. The game offers an open-world style of gameplay and new features such as swapping vehicles instantly. We had the chance to demo the upcoming Hot Wheels game, and fans of the games have something to look forward to.

Feel the Breeze

Instead of racing in track-based races in Unleashed and Unleashed 2, Infinite Rush doesn’t constrict players to drive to select modes and lets users drive around to initiate a mode while driving in an open-world environment. You’re not just driving on the orange tracks; instead, the game features a blend of the island’s downtown environment and off-roading paths, with orange tracks added for additional routes. The world is bright and vivid. Colors pop and while the demo was limited, I wonder if we’ll see environmental changes that occur on these islands such as rain or snow.

There are four islands you can travel to, each vastly open to drive around. To get to each island, you’ll drive on a ramp that’ll send your car flying through the air to that designated island. It’s a cool experience, but I wonder if the game will allow fast travel once you visit the island to save time. We didn’t get the answer in our short demo run, but it’s something to look out for down the road.

Players can explore the map at their pace, engaging in activities or collecting gear scattered throughout. If you’re looking to unlock new vehicles, then you’ll want to accept the variety of challenges Infinite Rush offers.

Challenge Accepted

As you cruise around the island, you can initiate challenges right away when you arrive at the destination. Typically, you can easily spot these highlighted areas. Please enter the area, initiate the challenge, and it will begin. There are a variety of challenges players can do in this open world of Hot Wheels. Take on Stuntman events to destroy as many obstacles within a time limit. Pull off as many drifts to cross the finish line in the Drift Stunt challenge. Have you come across a daredevil roaming the island? Catch up to him and challenge him to a race. The loading time between initiating and starting the challenge was quick and felt seamless.

Win these challenges and you’re rewarded a new vehicle. If you want to re-challenge the event once more for better results, you can do so as many times as you wish. The world is your oyster, and you can do just about anything you want.

New Features, New Ride

One of the latest features Hot Wheels Infinite Rush offers is the ability to swap a different vehicle instantly by pulling up a quick menu option to change. Players can also adjust the sound effects on their vehicles, change colors, and more for each one. It’s a lot more customization when compared to previous games. Players will enjoy the options and the variety of creating their own garage of vehicles.

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush feels like a brand new path rather than a new Unleashed title, and that’s what the series needs. Based on the short demo we played at Summer Game Fest, Infinite Rush is paving its way on the right track, and we’re intrigued to see where the road leads when it launches this fall.
