Forever Ago, a narrative-driven indie adventure where you play as Alfred, who’s seeking redemption and closure. We had an opportunity to demo this narrative game at Summer Game Fest, and it carries beautiful visuals and strong emotions.
Help an Old Man Out

During our demo run, we were controlling Alfred, a senior who’s traveling in his old minivan on a road trip north. Stopping at a countryside gas station, Alfred reminisces over old photos hanging on the wall inside the gas station’s market. However, it brings some sad memories of his past love, Audrey. Details about her history are scarce, and players will have to play the full game when it comes out this fall to get them.
You’ll play in third-person view as you control Afred. While walking around, you can interact with many objects that will initiate dialogues. There are key moments that will initiate a flashback of Alfred’s memories. During one of the flashbacks, it was quite visual with animated abstract objects and color themes that resembled the time of the past, as if it were a dream sequence. You’ll encounter more of these sequences and more of Alfred’s past and youth through the years. Expect to encounter a variety of emotions from Alfred’s history, including love, loss, regret, and more. It’ll be a strong-storytelling indie game, and don’t expect a fast-paced action game.
Capturing the Beauty

You won’t just control Alfred’s movements but also use his Polaroid camera. For those who aren’t familiar with Polaroid cameras, they develop photos right away. Use your camera to take moments during Alfred’s trip, solve puzzles, and encourage players to take beautiful photos on their own. I don’t expect the camera to carry additional add-ons like the indie game OPUS: Prism Peak, as the game feels more focused on storytelling, with its camera as a tool to unlock memories.
Forever Ago’s visuals carry that warm color theme and natural lighting, especially in the landscapes. Landscapes and characters carry that hand-painted look. Characters are in stylish low polygons, but their animations are quite smooth. Overall, Forever Ago is gearing up to be a creative, visually strong narrative game.
Forever Ago is set to launch on October 8, 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Fans can visit the game’s official website for more information and purchasing options. We appreciate Annapurna Interactive for giving us the opportunity to demo this narrative game at the Summer Game Fest.
