During the Pixel Arcada showcase, Terranigma announced to return to modern consoles and PC in early 2027. The classic action RPG originally released in October 1995 in Japan for the Super Famicom and in December 1996 for the Super Nintendo in the PAL regions. The game never released in the United States and the only way you could play it today was purchasing a used copy online, which didn’t come cheap if you are looking for the original PAL region version.

Luckily for fans of the Super Nintendo era, you’ll have a chance to play the game in early 2027 for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Fans who want to purchase it on Steam can wishlist the game right now on the official product page. The game appears to be a direct port and not a remake.

About Terranigma

The Earth is a hollow sphere with two sides: an external Lightside and an internal Darkside. In the Darkside village of Crysta, the mischievous Ark lives unaware of the world beyond. But one day, he opens a forbidden door and sets in motion events that will change the world. For decades, Terranigma has captivated players with its emotional story and transformative journey. Now you can (re)experience its magic yourself!

Manga artist Kamui Fujiwara had the following to say about the game’s return:

30 years ago, Terranigma was released on the SNES. Now, at long last it will be available once again.on console and PC, digital and physical. It may not be exactly the same as it was back then, but I’m sincerely delighted about it making its return to the current gaming environment. During the original’s development, I was involved with designing  not only the characters, but the world too, and even some of the game settings as well.I hope the themes of god and humanity, creation and destruction, and the atmosphere of the world itself resonate with today’s players too. Not as a relic of the past, but as a living, breathing work. This moment has been long awaited and now it is finally here. I hope you will enjoy it with all your heart.

Terranigma announced to release in early 2027 for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
